A lot can happen in ten years.
When New Mexico State University joined the global Giving Tuesday movement for the first time on December 1, 2015, it marked the start of a new Aggie tradition. The goal was simple but ambitious: raise awareness for student scholarships, inspire new and returning donors, and generate $250,000 to support Aggies pursuing their dreams.
The results far exceeded expectations. That first year, $628,984 was raised in just 24 hours, with gifts coming from 47 states and three countries.
The spirit of generosity spread across the university that first year with more than 650 faculty and staff joining in, raising $229,000 of that total amount and adding 225 new donors from within the NMSU community.
Giving Tuesday Headquarters were based in Corbett Center and each time a new goal was met, a chorus of cowbells rang out, echoing through the building and signaling another wave of generosity.
NMSU Giving Tuesday 2025
Ten years later, that joyful sound has become a hallmark of the day. Giving Tuesday is now a cherished Aggie tradition: a time when alumni, faculty, staff, and friends around the world come together to open doors for future students. What began as a single day of giving has grown into a decade of impact, legacy, and love for NMSU.
This year’s campaign, themed “More Cowbell • More Impact” in a throwback to 2015, invites Aggies everywhere to ring in the spirit of giving by supporting scholarships, student success, and programs that transform lives. Donors can choose from more than 50 initiatives and multiply their impact through matching and challenge opportunities.
“A decade of Giving Tuesday has proven that when Aggies unite, incredible things happen,” said Sylvia Y. Acosta, Ph.D. ’10, CEO of the NMSU Foundation. “Every gift fuels progress and every donor builds opportunity. Together we’re shaping the next decade of impact.”
Join us on December 2, 2025, from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Here’s to the next ten years of generosity — and the thousands of Aggie lives still to be changed.
