College of Health, Education and Social Transformation
“Learn, Engage, Transform”
The College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation (HEST) is a dynamic, interdisciplinary college dedicated to addressing health, education, and social inequities to advance New Mexico’s economic and community development. Formed in 2021 by merging the Colleges of Education and Health and Social Services, HEST comprises nine high-demand academic units—from Nursing and Social Work to Public Health and Sociology—that equip students to lead in allied health, social services, and education. Guided by our motto, “Learn, Engage, Transform,” HEST fosters impactful education, research, and community outreach to address critical issues like cancer, poverty, mental health, and educational disparities, with a commitment to excellence, equity, and collaboration for a brighter, healthier, and more equitable future.

When you choose to give to HEST, you become a partner in our mission. Thank you!”

The Legacy of Dr. Robert Gallegos
Oftentimes those who overcome hardships early in life develop the greatest passion for helping others overcome theirs. Such was the case for Dr. Robert Levi Gallegos (1932 – 2021), who came to NMSU in 1976 and taught in the former College of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction for 36 years.
