A Historic Milestone — and a New Beginning

The NMSU Foundation has surpassed $500 million in assets under management for the first time, strengthening its ability to support students, faculty and research. This historic milestone reflects the generosity of donors, the disciplined stewardship of the Foundation’s independent Board of Directors and staff, and places the Foundation among the top university foundations in the nation.

This achievement represents more than growth — it reflects a shared vision to expand opportunity, elevate academic excellence and create lasting impact. With a stronger foundation in place, NMSU is poised to support future generations of Aggies and continue advancing its land-grant mission.

board news

New Year, New Board Leadership

As the New Mexico State University Foundation begins a new fiscal year July 1, a new chapter of leadership is underway. Margaret Hardin ’94, former CEO of Ergobaby, steps into the role as board chair, succeeding Louis A. Vega ’91, president of Dow North America, who will continue his service as immediate past chair.

Hardin is joined by a strong executive committee, including Carol Smallwood ’83 as vice chair, Amy E. Hummer as secretary and Eric Powell ’80 as treasurer. The Foundation also welcomes three new board members: Lynden Armstrong ’94, Paul Gutierrez ’92 and Raquel Bone ’91 ’93, bringing expertise across technology, public affairs and financial services.

Together, the 32-member board helps guide the Foundation’s investments and long-term strategy, supporting scholarships, programs and opportunities that advance NMSU’s landgrant mission and create lasting impact for Aggies.

The Lou and Mary Henson Excellence Fund (formerly Aggie Athletic Club) honors Coach Lou Henson’s enduring legacy at New Mexico State University — a legacy rooted in leadership, opportunity, and belief in our student-athletes. A proud alum (’55, ’56) and NMSU’s winningest men’s basketball coach, Henson saw athletics as a pathway to education and lifelong success.

As the official fundraising arm of Aggie Athletics, the Lou and Mary Henson Excellence Fund supports more than 425 student-athletes across 15 sports, providing scholarships, academic resources, and training support so Aggies can thrive on the field, in the classroom, and beyond.
